Mortal Kombat II on SNES retains the core gameplay of the arcade version: a 2D fighting game with simple yet deep controls. Players choose from a diverse roster of fighters, each with their unique movesets, strengths, and weaknesses. Matches are played in rounds, and players must defeat their opponent using normal attacks, special moves, and powerful finishing moves. The highlight of Mortal Kombat II is its Fatality system – brutal and impressive finishing moves that define the series' brand. The SNES version, while graphically limited compared to the arcade, still manages to recreate the visually striking action, vibrant sound effects, and detailed character designs. The game also includes various game modes such as Arcade Mode (story mode), Versus Mode (two-player mode), and Practice Mode to help players learn and improve their skills. Despite some limitations in the number of characters and a few cut effects compared to the arcade version, Mortal Kombat II on SNES remains a great experience for fans of classic fighting games.
