Introduce

In Jack Nicklaus' Greatest 18 Holes of Major Championship Golf, players embark on a classic golf experience on the NES, focusing on 18 iconic holes from major championship courses. The gameplay is designed to simulate the sport of golf, requiring precision and strategy.

When it's your turn to hit, the screen initially displays a top-down view of the entire hole, allowing players to survey the layout, plan their shot, and select the appropriate club. Subsequently, the view shifts behind the golfer, focusing on the swing itself. The ball-hitting mechanism involves a power bar and an accuracy meter. Players need to press a button at the right moment to determine the power of their swing and then press it again to control the accuracy of the shot.

The game offers a variety of clubs, ranging from woods for long-distance shots to irons and a putter for closer approaches. Choosing the right club for the distance and terrain is crucial. Players will encounter common golf course hazards such as bunkers, water hazards, and rough, each affecting your shot differently.

Once the ball is near the hole, the screen transitions to putting mode. Here, players will see a grid overlay on the green to help determine the slope and break of the putt. Reading the green's topography accurately is key to sinking the ball. The ultimate goal is to complete all 18 holes with the fewest strokes possible, mimicking the challenge of professional golf.
