Introduce
In Datach - Yu Yu Hakusho - Bakutou Ankoku Bujutsukai, players step into the shoes of familiar characters from the Yu Yu Hakusho manga/anime series to participate in the legendary Dark Tournament. A unique aspect of this game on the NES is its integration with the Bandai Datach system.
Before initiating battles or during combat, players can utilize the Datach peripheral to scan specialized physical cards. Each card can provide various effects, ranging from boosting character attack and defense stats, restoring energy, to unlocking powerful special moves or altering the elemental attributes of attacks.
The core gameplay unfolds as a turn-based fighting game. Players select actions from a menu, which typically includes physical attacks, using spirit energy (Reiki), defending, or using items. The effectiveness of these actions is often determined by the character's stats and, crucially, the effects granted by the scanned cards. Battles require players to employ strategic thinking in both card usage and attack selection to exploit opponent weaknesses.
The ultimate goal is to defeat all opponents in the tournament, faithfully recreating the storyline of the Dark Tournament arc and facing formidable foes like Toguro.
