Introduce
In Battleship NES, players engage in a tactical naval battle. The primary objective is to sink the opponent's entire fleet of warships before they do the same to yours.
Gameplay is divided into two main phases. The first phase is 'Ship Placement,' where players secretly arrange their five ships (aircraft carrier, battleship, submarine, destroyer, patrol boat) onto a 10x10 grid. The positions of these ships are not revealed to the opponent. Strategic placement is crucial to protect your fleet.
The second phase is 'Attack.' Players take turns calling out coordinates on the opponent's grid (e.g., B5, G8). The system will report whether it's a 'Hit' (a ship was struck) or a 'Miss' (the shot landed in open water). When a ship is hit, a portion of it is marked. Once all squares of a ship have been hit, it is 'sunk.'
The game continues until one player sinks all five of the opponent's ships. The NES version of Battleship typically allows players to compete against the computer, offering a classic strategic experience with simple yet effective graphics and sound that recreate the suspenseful feel of the original board game.
