Introduce
In AV Hanafuda Club, players engage in the traditional Japanese Hanafuda card game on the NES platform. The primary objective is to collect valuable card combinations (yaku) that yield higher points than the opponent. Each round begins with cards dealt to the players and several face-up cards on the table. On their turn, a player draws a card from the draw pile, then attempts to match it with a card already on the table that shares the same month or "suit."
If a successful match is made, both cards are collected by the player. Following this, the player must choose another card from their hand to discard onto the table. This process continues until all cards are played or a player decides to "go" (continue playing) or "stop" (end the round and score). Knowing when to "stop" to secure points or "go" to risk for larger combinations is key to victory. Common yaku include "Tsukimi-zake" (moon-viewing sake), "Hanami-zake" (flower-viewing sake), "Goko" (five brights), and many others, each with different point values. The "AV" element in AV Hanafuda Club typically refers to adult-themed visuals or rewards that appear when players achieve certain milestones or win rounds, adding an extra layer of motivation, despite this being an unlicensed title.
