Introduce

The game Auto-Upturn immerses players in the world of Japanese Mahjong (Riichi Mahjong) on the NES console. It is a turn-based strategy game where the primary objective is to form a complete hand consisting of four sets of three (or four) and one pair, using 14 tiles in hand.

At the start of each round, each player is dealt 13 tiles. On their turn, the player draws a new tile from the wall. They then must decide whether to keep that tile or discard another tile from their hand. Discarding tiles is a crucial part of the strategy, as it can help opponents complete their hands.

Players can claim discarded tiles from opponents to form open (exposed) sets through actions such as Pon (forming a triplet of identical tiles), Chi (forming a sequence of three consecutive tiles of the same suit), or Kan (forming a quartet of identical tiles). However, forming open sets typically reduces the scoring value of a winning hand. The ultimate goal is to declare Ron (when claiming an opponent's discarded tile to complete the hand) or Tsumo (when drawing the required tile from the wall to complete the hand).

Scoring (Yaku) is calculated based on complex rules, including special hand patterns, the number of Han (value) of Yaku, and the Riichi state (declaring readiness to win). Players need to understand these rules to maximize their score and win effectively. Auto-Upturn offers an authentic mahjong experience with a simple yet fully functional interface.
