Introduce
In ASO - Armored Scrum Object, players pilot an advanced, transforming combat machine known as ASO. This is a classic vertical-scrolling shooter (shmup) released for the NES. The primary objective is to decimate countless alien enemies and gigantic bosses across a variety of stages.
The unique selling point of ASO lies in its weapon system and transformation ability. Players can collect power-up icons dropped by defeated enemies. These icons include various weapon types such as Twin Shot, a powerful Laser beam, and a wide-covering Spread Shot. Additionally, there are icons that allow ASO to equip auxiliary parts like a Side Blaster or a Rear Blaster, significantly boosting firepower.
The most prominent feature is ASO's transformation capability. By collecting enough "P" (Power) icons, players can activate a transformation mode, turning into a more powerful aircraft or another robot form depending on the version or stage. This transformation mode typically grants faster movement speed and superior firepower, though it can sometimes alter controls or expose new vulnerabilities.
The game features multiple stages with unique designs, ranging from narrow corridors to vast open spaces, each presenting distinct enemy types and challenges. At the end of each stage, players will confront a formidable boss, requiring tactical thinking and quick reflexes to defeat. Despite being an older title, ASO still offers a challenging and engaging shooting experience for fans of the genre.
