Introduce

In Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Hillsfar, players begin their journey by creating their character. You can choose from various character classes such as Fighter, Cleric, Magic-User, or Thief, and races like Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, or Halfling. Each combination offers unique stats and abilities, influencing your gameplay style.

The game primarily takes place within the city of Hillsfar and its surrounding areas. The city map is presented in a 2D overhead view, allowing players to navigate between key locations such as shops, taverns, guilds, and other districts. The main objective often revolves around completing quests assigned by NPCs, which can include finding specific items, rescuing captives, or defeating enemies.

A unique aspect of Hillsfar is its blend of various gameplay types. When exploring dungeons or dangerous areas, the game switches to a first-person perspective, reminiscent of classic dungeon crawlers. Combat within these dungeons is turn-based, requiring players to strategically choose their spells or physical attacks. Furthermore, the game features a variety of mini-games. Players can participate in archery contests, test their lockpicking skills, engage in arena combat, or even ride horses. These mini-games not only provide entertainment but also help players earn money or hone their skills.

While sometimes criticized for simplifying D&D rules compared to its PC counterparts, Advanced Dungeons & Dragons - Hillsfar still offers a unique RPG adventure experience on the NES, combining world exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat.
