Introduce
Warlocked is a remarkable real-time strategy (RTS) game for the Game Boy Color, a genre that was quite rare on the platform at the time. The game immerses players in a fantasy world where two warring factions, Humans and Beasts, are locked in conflict.
Each faction boasts unique units, buildings, and spells. The player's primary objective is to build and manage their base, gather resources (gold and wood), train an army, and utilize powerful spells to destroy the enemy's stronghold.
The user interface is designed to accommodate the GBC's small screen, allowing players to select and control units, and construct buildings via a menu system. Players must mine gold deposits and chop trees for wood, both essential resources for construction and unit creation.
Units possess distinct strengths and weaknesses, ranging from melee soldiers, archers, and mages to various mythical creatures. Combining units effectively is crucial for victory. Furthermore, players can research and cast numerous spells, from direct attacks and defensive buffs to support spells like healing or unit enhancements.
The campaign mode guides players through various missions with a progressing storyline, while the Skirmish mode offers customizable battles. Warlocked successfully brought a complex RTS experience to a handheld platform with inherent technical limitations, providing challenging and engaging gameplay.
