Tottoko Hamutarou - Tomodachi Daisakusen Dechu is a charming adventure puzzle game for the Game Boy Color, based on the popular Hamtaro anime series. Players take on the role of the lovable little hamster, Hamtaro, with the main goal of connecting with and helping other Ham-Hams and various small animal friends within his world.

The game is divided into several distinct areas to explore, including Hamtaro's clubhouse, school, park, and many other locations. Each area holds secrets, mini-quests, and characters in need of assistance. A defining feature of the gameplay is the use of "Ham-Chat" – the special language of the hamsters. Players will learn and utilize new Ham-Chat words to interact with the environment and characters. For instance, Poundie might be used to break obstacles, Digdig to dig in the ground, or Hamha to greet others. Learning and accumulating new Ham-Chat words is key to progressing through the game, unlocking new areas, and solving puzzles.

Puzzles often revolve around finding items, using the correct Ham-Chat word at the right time, or interacting with the environment to clear a path. Additionally, the game features side activities such as collecting sunflower seeds (the in-game currency), finding special items, and occasionally simple mini-games. The game's graphics are cartoonish, bright, and adorable, fitting for its target younger audience. The music is also cheerful and catchy. The ultimate goal typically involves completing a larger mission or reuniting all friends, emphasizing the theme of friendship and cooperation among the Ham-Hams. The game lacks complex combat elements, focusing instead on exploration, puzzle-solving, and social interaction.
