In Super Black Bass, players take on the role of a professional angler aiming to conquer various bass fishing tournaments. The game focuses on a realistic fishing simulation experience, where skill and strategy play a crucial role.

Each level typically takes place at a different fishing spot, with specific weather conditions and types of bass. Players begin by selecting appropriate fishing gear, including rods, reels, lines, and especially a diverse range of lures. Choosing the right lure is a critical factor in attracting bass. After selection, players will perform the casting action into their desired spot on the water. The accuracy of the cast and how the lure is controlled after casting will influence the chances of a fish biting.

Once a fish bites, a battle between the player and the fish begins. The screen will display a tension bar or the fish's stamina meter. Players must adjust their rod and reeling speed to prevent the line from breaking and to tire out the fish. This is the most intense part of the game, requiring rhythmic coordination between reeling in and letting out line to maintain pressure on the fish without over-stressing the line. The goal is to land the fish before time runs out or the fish escapes.

The game often features a tournament mode, where players must catch the heaviest bass within a time limit to win and unlock new fishing areas or better equipment. Super Black Bass offers an entertaining yet challenging fishing experience on the Game Boy system.
