Roland Garros French Open (GBC) delivers an authentic tennis experience on the Game Boy Color, focusing on the prestigious clay-court Grand Slam tournament. Players will have the opportunity to embody a tennis player, competing through knockout rounds to claim the championship title.

The gameplay of Roland Garros French Open is quite intuitive, suitable for the limited buttons of the GBC. Players will move their tennis player on the court using the D-pad. Shots are executed by pressing action buttons, typically A and B, combined with directional input to control the power and trajectory of the ball. The game may feature various shot types such as forehand, backhand, dropshot, lob, and volley. Choosing the correct shot type and timing the stroke are key to outmaneuvering opponents.

The serving system is also designed to be simple yet effective. Players need to time their input to unleash powerful and accurate serves. Depending on the version, there might be a power or accuracy meter displayed on screen. Opponent AI will come in different difficulty levels, from easy to hard, providing suitable challenges for players of all skill levels.

The clay court environment of Roland Garros is recreated with its unique characteristics, influencing the speed and bounce of the ball. This requires players to adapt their strategy compared to other court surfaces. The ultimate goal is to win each match, advance deep into the tournament, and hoist the coveted French Open championship trophy.
