Introduce
In Mr. Do! (GB), players control the lovable clown, Mr. Do, whose primary objective is to dig tunnels throughout various levels to collect all the cherries. Each level presents a maze of dirt blocks that Mr. Do must navigate, digging through the blocks to create pathways and reach the scattered fruit.
The challenge isn't just limited to digging. Players will encounter various types of monsters, often referred to as "Munchers" or "Alphamonsters," who will relentlessly pursue Mr. Do. To defend himself, Mr. Do is equipped with a special bouncing power ball. When thrown, this ball will bounce around the screen, eliminating any monster it touches. However, the ball can only be reused after it bounces off the screen or returns to Mr. Do, requiring players to time their throws skillfully.
Another crucial strategy involves utilizing the large apples (cherries) scattered throughout the level. When Mr. Do digs the ground beneath an apple, it will fall. If the falling apple hits a monster, they are eliminated. Players can create "apple traps" by digging paths that lead monsters directly under an apple and then digging the block beneath the apple to make it fall. This requires careful planning and prediction of monster movements.
The goal of each level is to complete one of three conditions: collect all the cherries, defeat all the monsters, or find and collect a special diamond that appears after a certain number of monsters are defeated or specific hidden conditions are met. Upon completing a level, players advance to the next, which increases in difficulty, featuring more monsters and more complex level layouts.
The Game Boy Color version of Mr. Do! retains the classic gameplay while optimizing it for the handheld's smaller screen and control limitations, providing a simple yet engaging arcade experience for fans of the genre.
