Introduce
In Missile Command, players assume the role of a defensive commander tasked with protecting six cities at the bottom of the screen from relentless barrages of incoming missiles from above. You are equipped with three missile bases, each possessing its own limited supply of defensive ammunition. To intercept enemy missiles, you use a targeting reticle to aim and then press a button to fire. Your defensive missiles will travel to your chosen point and detonate, creating an powerful explosion radius capable of destroying any enemy projectiles within its blast.
The enemies are not just single missiles but also include other threats like bombers and satellites, all aiming to destroy your cities or missile bases. As the game progresses, the attack waves become increasingly challenging, featuring more numerous missiles, faster speeds, and more complex trajectories. Players need quick reflexes and strategic decision-making to prioritize targets and manage their limited missile supply effectively.
Scoring in Missile Command is based on the number of enemy missiles destroyed and the number of cities remaining after each wave. You also receive bonus points for any unused defensive missiles at the end of each level. The game concludes when all six of your cities have been destroyed. The GBC version of Missile Command retains the addictive gameplay of the arcade original, adapted to fit the smaller screen and controls of the Game Boy Color, offering a classic missile defense experience on the go.
