In Miner 2049er Starring Bounty Bob, players take on the role of Bounty Bob, a courageous miner exploring dangerous radioactive mineshafts on an alien planet. The primary objective of each level is to collect all the radioactive material by walking over every section of the platforms within the mine. Each time Bob traverses a platform segment, it becomes 'filled' or 'claimed' as collected. Once all platform sections are filled, the level is complete.

However, this task is far from easy. The mines are teeming with dangerous mutant creatures and deadly environmental hazards such as laser beams, toxic waste, and falling machinery. Bob must skillfully jump over obstacles, climb ladders, and navigate complex tunnels to avoid enemies. If Bob touches an enemy or falls into a hazard, he loses a life.

To aid Bob in his quest, various power-up items can be collected. For instance, a pickaxe will render enemies vulnerable for a short period, allowing Bob to pass through them unharmed. Other items might include protective shields or speed boosts.

The game features multiple unique levels, each with its own distinct layout and challenges. Players need to carefully plan their movements and react quickly to clear each stage within a time limit. Miner 2049er combines puzzle-solving elements with action-platforming, requiring both strategic thinking and precise control skills. The Game Boy/Game Boy Color version faithfully captures the spirit of the original arcade classic, offering an engaging retro experience.
