Introduce
Metal Slug (GBC) delivers the classic side-scrolling run-and-gun action experience to the handheld console. Players step into the shoes of one of the Peregrine Falcon (PF) Squad members, typically Marco Rossi or Tarma Roving, to combat General Morden's rebel army. The primary objective is to navigate through levels filled with enemies, rescue hostages, and defeat the boss at the end of each stage.
The gameplay of Metal Slug (GBC) is fast-paced and intense. Players can shoot in eight directions, jump, and throw grenades. Rescuing hostages often rewards players with more powerful weapons such as the heavy machine gun, shotgun, or rocket launcher, along with additional grenades. These special weapons have limited ammunition and are lost if the player is defeated.
A hallmark of the Metal Slug series is the ability to utilize combat vehicles, most notably the iconic Metal Slug tank. Entering the tank grants the player significantly increased firepower and better damage resistance. Other vehicles may also appear in specific stages. Despite being a GBC version, the game retains the high tempo and characteristic chaos of its arcade counterpart, although graphics and details are somewhat simplified to suit the hardware.
Each level is designed with various obstacles and a diverse array of enemies, ranging from foot soldiers, tanks, and aircraft, to giant robots. The challenge comes from dodging bullets, managing weapon resources, and identifying enemy weaknesses. Metal Slug (GBC) successfully translates the spirit of the original onto a portable platform, providing hours of thrilling entertainment.
