Hamunaptra - Ushinawareta Sabaku no Miyako is an action-adventure puzzle game released for the Game Boy Color system. Set in ancient Egypt, players assume the role of a brave explorer embarking on a journey to uncover forgotten tombs, pyramids, and temples, with the goal of finding valuable treasures and artifacts, and unraveling ancient mysteries.

The gameplay of Hamunaptra - Ushinawareta Sabaku no Miyako focuses on a blend of exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving. Players will control their character through 2D environments, involving walking, jumping, climbing, and sometimes pushing objects. The combat system is straightforward yet effective, allowing players to use weapons like a whip or a gun to fend off numerous enemies, from ancient mummies to giant scorpions and other guardian monsters.

Puzzle elements are a significant part of the game. Players will need to overcome various obstacles by pushing blocks into correct positions, activating hidden switches, finding well-hidden keys, or even assembling fragments to open new paths. The game environments are also filled with dangerous traps such as spikes, deep pits, or crumbling floors that can give way at any moment, requiring caution and dexterity from the player.

Throughout the journey, players can collect items like coins for purchases or health items to maintain their well-being. Additionally, finding weapon upgrades will enhance the character's combat capabilities. The game is divided into several distinct levels, each a unique exploration area with its own set of puzzles and enemy types, providing a diverse and challenging experience. The game's 2D pixel art graphics are well-suited for the GBC, complemented by sound design that creates a mysterious and ancient Egyptian atmosphere.
