Introduce

Cave Noire is a unique roguelike RPG for the Game Boy, renowned for its simple yet challenging gameplay. Players choose one of four main quest types before embarking on an adventure into procedurally generated dungeons: eliminate all monsters, collect a certain number of items, find the exit on the deepest floor, or find a specific item and then escape the dungeon.

Each playthrough in Cave Noire offers a fresh experience due to the randomized map generation, with monster, item, and exit locations constantly changing. The turn-based gameplay demands careful consideration of every move. As you move or act, monsters will also move and attack. The combat system is straightforward: players simply move into a monster's tile to attack. Combat outcomes are based on your attack and defense stats versus the monster's.

One of Cave Noire's distinctive features is its lack of a traditional inventory management system. Instead, items you pick up are automatically used or provide passive effects. For instance, a healing potion will be automatically consumed when you need it, or a piece of armor will immediately boost your defense stats. This forces players to focus more on strategic movement and combat rather than inventory organization.

The game features "permanent death," meaning that when your character falls, you lose all progress and must start over from the beginning. However, each failure is a lesson, helping you better understand the game mechanics and develop superior strategies for subsequent runs. The graphics are simple yet effective, combined with the distinctive Game Boy sound, creating an engaging atmosphere for fans of classic roguelike titles.
