Introduce
In Xexyz, players control the character Apollo on a quest to rescue Princess Marlene from the evil overlord Goro. The game combines elements of side-scrolling action and adventure games, creating a unique experience on the NES system.
The gameplay of Xexyz is divided into two main parts. The first part takes place on a horizontal side-scrolling overworld map, where Apollo navigates through various regions. Here, players will encounter towns and fortresses. In towns, players can interact with NPCs for hints or purchase useful items from shops, using the R-Coins collected from enemies. Items include weapon upgrades, increased jumping ability (like Boost Boots), or health recovery items.
The second part of the gameplay occurs when Apollo enters a fortress or castle. These areas shift to a fixed-screen or vertical/horizontal scrolling style with numerous platforms and obstacles. The objective within each fortress is to find and defeat the final boss to unlock the next area on the overworld map. Apollo is equipped with a gun to attack enemies, and players need to dodge their attacks. Apollo's health bar decreases when attacked, and players need to manage it carefully.
Throughout the adventure, players will collect in-game currency called R-Coins by defeating enemies. This money is crucial for purchasing upgrades and items, helping Apollo become stronger and more easily overcome difficult challenges. Each fortress features a unique boss, requiring players to figure out appropriate strategies to defeat them. Xexyz offers an engaging blend of exploration, combat, and upgrades, keeping players hooked through challenging levels.
