Introduce
In Xevious - The Avenger on NES, players pilot the Solvalou spaceship in a desperate fight for survival against the Xevious forces. This is a classic vertical-scrolling shooter, where the screen continuously moves upwards, guiding players through diverse landscapes such as dense forests, vast deserts, oceans, and enemy strongholds.
The unique aspect of Xevious lies in its dual weapon system. Players have access to two primary weapon types:
- Zapper: This is a straight-firing weapon used to attack airborne targets, including various enemy fighter aircraft.
- Blaster: This is an air-to-ground bomb, used to destroy ground targets such as tanks, turrets, barricades, and especially the secret "Sol" structures hidden beneath the surface.
Players must master switching between these two weapon types to effectively deal with both aerial and ground threats. Enemies appear in dense formations, requiring quick reflexes and evasion skills. Furthermore, finding and destroying the secret "Sol" structures not only yields high scores but sometimes also grants minor advantages.
The main objective is to survive the relentless enemy assaults, destroy large units like the flying fortress Andor Genesis, and achieve the highest possible score. Xevious - The Avenger emphasizes precise control, the ability to make quick decisions, and appropriate attack strategies for each type of target.
