In Venice Beach Volleyball, players participate in thrilling 2-on-2 beach volleyball matches set on California's famous Venice Beach. The primary objective is to win matches by making the ball hit the ground on the opponent's side of the court or by forcing the opponent to fail to return the ball.

The gameplay of Venice Beach Volleyball is relatively simple yet engaging, fitting the arcade style prevalent at the time. Players control one of their two team members, moving around the court and performing actions like passing, setting, and attacking. Basic controls include horizontal movement, jumping, and executing various ball hits.

When the ball comes, players need to position themselves accurately to receive it successfully. After receiving the ball, you can pass it to your teammate or directly execute an attack. Shots can range from powerful spikes to clever drop shots, depending on your position and the timing of your button press. Timing and positioning are key to executing effective attacks and getting past your opponent's block.

The game typically offers a single-player mode (against the AI) or a two-player mode, allowing you to compete with a friend. Matches follow traditional volleyball scoring. While graphics and sound are simple, they are characteristic of the NES system, providing a nostalgic and fun experience. Venice Beach Volleyball delivers an authentic and entertaining beach volleyball experience on an 8-bit platform.
