Uncharted Waters (USA) NES is an RPG, strategy, and simulation game set in the Age of Discovery. Players assume the role of Leon Franco, a young man from a fallen Portuguese noble family. Your primary objective is to restore your family's honor and fortune through adventures across the high seas.

The gameplay of Uncharted Waters revolves around world exploration, trading, and naval combat. You start with a small ship and a modest sum of money, from which you will build your maritime empire. The vast world map allows you to sail to ports across various continents, from Europe, Africa, and Asia to the Americas. Exploration isn't just about discovering new ports; it also involves finding hidden locations, secret sea routes, and even buried treasures.

Trading is a core component of the game. At each port, you can buy and sell a variety of goods such as spices, textiles, weapons, food, and more. Commodity prices fluctuate depending on supply and demand in each region. The goal is to buy goods where they are cheap and sell them where they are expensive to make a profit. You also need to manage your ship's cargo hold and provisions for your crew, ensuring they don't starve or mutiny.

Naval combat is an inevitable part of Uncharted Waters. You will face pirates, warships from rival nations, or even legendary sea monsters. Battles are turn-based, requiring players to strategize, use appropriate ammunition, and maneuver their ship to optimize attack positions. Upgrading your ship, equipping better weapons, and hiring experienced crew members are crucial for victory. You can also recruit special officers with unique skills to assist in battles or trade operations.

Beyond its strategy and simulation elements, Uncharted Waters also incorporates RPG features. Your main character, Leon Franco, will have stats such as strength, intelligence, leadership, and skills in navigation, trading, and combat. These stats will increase as you perform corresponding actions. For instance, extensive trading will improve your trading skill, while combat will enhance your combat skill. There are numerous quests and side stories for players to explore, leading to multiple different endings depending on your choices. The ultimate goal is to become a renowned admiral, accumulating enough fame and wealth to restore the Franco family name.
