Introduce
In Totally Rad, players assume the role of Jake, a young apprentice magician tasked with rescuing his girlfriend Allison from a mysterious evil force. This is a classic side-scrolling platformer where Jake must navigate through various stages filled with obstacles and enemies.
Jake possesses basic attacks like punches and kicks, but the main highlight of the game lies in his diverse magic system. Players can learn and utilize 10 different types of spells, accessed through a dedicated menu. These spells range from offensive abilities like fireballs and earthquakes to defensive ones like creating a shield, or supportive spells like healing. Notably, Jake can also transform into different forms such as a bird, fish, or rock, each offering unique movement and attack capabilities that help overcome specific areas or solve minor puzzles.
Using magic consumes magic points (MP), so players need to manage their MP wisely. Throughout the levels, you'll find health and MP restoring items, as well as power-ups that enhance Jake's abilities. Each stage culminates in a challenging boss fight, requiring players to master both physical combat skills and the strategic use of magic. With vibrant 8-bit graphics and an 80s-inspired soundtrack, Totally Rad delivers a unique magical action experience on the NES.
