Tetsudou Ou - Famicom Boardgame is an engaging railway business board game for the Famicom (NES) system. The main objective for players is to become the wealthiest railway magnate by building and managing a railway empire.
Gameplay revolves around moving across a large board game map, representing cities and potential railway routes. Each turn, players will roll dice to determine the number of spaces to move. The spaces on the board can be cities where you can build stations and expand your railway network; routes that, when passed through, allow you to purchase or upgrade railway lines to increase income; event spaces that trigger random occurrences, which can be positive (gain money, stocks) or negative (lose money, incidents); and stock spaces that allow players to buy or sell shares of various railway companies, including their own and opponents'. This is a crucial strategic element for making profits or disrupting opponents.
Players earn money by operating the railway lines they have built, collecting fees from passengers and freight. The more connected and upgraded routes you have, the higher your income. However, maintenance and expansion also incur costs.
The strategic element also lies in financial management, balancing investment in infrastructure with investment in the stock market. The game allows up to four players (human or AI) to compete against each other. The game ends after a set number of turns, or when a player goes bankrupt, and the player with the highest total assets (cash + stock value + railway asset value) wins. Tetsudou Ou - Famicom Boardgame offers a unique business simulation experience with elements of luck from dice rolls and calculation from financial strategy.
