Introduce

Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima IV, also known as Adventure Island IV, is the final installment of the popular series on the NES, offering a significantly different experience compared to its predecessors. Moving away from linear stage progression, this game introduces a vast overworld, allowing players to freely explore the island. Players control Takahashi Meijin (Master Higgins) on his quest to rescue kidnapped dinosaurs and his friends.

A notable feature of Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima IV is the elimination of the constantly draining energy bar, replaced by a traditional health bar. This makes the experience less stressful and emphasizes exploration. Players can collect various weapons such as stone axes, boomerangs, or flamethrowers, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. The item system is significantly expanded, with an inventory allowing Takahashi Meijin to carry and use tools like keys, skateboards, or dinosaur eggs.

Dinosaur eggs are a key gameplay element. After collecting an egg, Takahashi Meijin can summon companion dinosaurs with special abilities. For example, the blue dinosaur can swim, the red dinosaur can breathe fire, and the flying dinosaur allows players to traverse airborne obstacles. Using the correct dinosaur for each area is crucial for progression. The game also incorporates light puzzle elements, requiring players to search for keys, activate switches, or discover secret passages.

Boss battles in Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima IV are diverse and creative, requiring players to master movement skills and effective weapon usage. Additionally, the game features a save function, a valuable addition for an NES title, alleviating concerns about losing progress. With colorful graphics, engaging music, and deeper gameplay, Takahashi Meijin no Bouken-jima IV is a gem on the NES and one of the most worthwhile action-adventure games to play.
