Introduce

In Taito Chase HQ for the NES, players take on the role of Tony Gibson, a special police officer for "Chase HQ"—a unit dedicated to pursuing dangerous criminals by car. Your primary objective in each stage is to catch up to and apprehend the announced criminal's vehicle. The game features a linear structure with multiple stages, each having a specific target.

At the start of each stage, you are informed about the type of car and license plate of the criminal. A timer immediately begins counting down. Your mission is to drive your car at high speeds through busy roads, avoiding other civilian vehicles to prevent losing momentum. Collisions can significantly reduce your speed and consume precious time.

Once you catch up to the criminal's car, the second phase of the stage begins. At this point, your goal is not just to maintain speed but also to ram into their car repeatedly to damage it and force them to stop. The criminal's car will have a health bar or display its damage level, and you must continuously collide with it until it is completely destroyed. Be careful, as your own car can also take damage during this process, though there's no explicit health bar, severe collisions can lead to loss of control or waste more time.

A crucial element in Taito Chase HQ is the ability to use turbo boosts. You have a limited number of turbos for each stage, typically three. Strategic use of turbo is key to covering long distances, catching up to criminals, or escaping traffic jams. When activated, your car will experience a sudden burst of speed for a short duration, helping you quickly close the gap.

Every stage in Taito Chase HQ has a strict time limit. If you fail to apprehend the criminal before time runs out, the mission fails, and you must restart the stage. The difficulty progressively increases with each stage, featuring faster criminals, more complex routes, and denser traffic. The game demands a combination of driving skill, quick reflexes, and effective time management to complete all missions and become the best Chase HQ officer.
