Introduce
In Spy vs Spy, players assume the role of one of two rival spies (black or white) with the objective of collecting four essential items (briefcase, passport, money, and key) and escaping the embassy before time runs out.
The game map is a complex embassy with various rooms, displayed via a split-screen, allowing both players to observe their own spy's actions and their opponent's simultaneously. This is a crucial element that defines the game's strategic depth.
The unique selling point of Spy vs Spy is the ability to set traps. Players can deploy various types of traps such as bombs, springs, buckets of water, or electrical wires to incapacitate their opponent. Each trap is placed in a specific location (doorways, cabinets, tables, chairs) and can have surprising effects. Players must also be careful not to fall into their own traps or those set by their opponent.
To survive, players need to carry corresponding tools to disarm traps: pliers for wires, an umbrella for water buckets, and a first-aid kit to recover from bombs or springs. Managing the quantity of traps and tools is vital.
Besides setting traps, the two spies can also engage in direct hand-to-hand combat. When two spies meet in the same room, a small combat screen appears, and players need to rapidly press buttons to win. The losing spy is temporarily knocked out and must wait a period before respawning.
The ultimate goal is to collect all four items and find your way to the airport to escape. The game demands a combination of strategic thinking, quick reflexes, and a bit of luck to outsmart your opponent.
