Introduce
Side Pocket (USA) NES is a classic billiard game, offering an authentic pool experience right on the NES console. Players will engage in billiard matches with the objective of potting all their assigned balls according to the game's rules.
The game features two main modes:
- Pocket Game: This is the standard pool mode, typically 8-ball billiards. Players need to pot all their assigned balls (solids or stripes), and then finally pot the 8-ball. This mode requires players to calculate ball trajectories, shot power, and angles to complete the game.
- Trick Shot: This mode presents special challenges where players must pot balls in a specific order or within a limited number of shots. Trick Shot levels often demand creativity and high skill, sometimes requiring complex billiard techniques such as applying spin (English) or performing bank shots to achieve the objective.
In terms of controls, Side Pocket is quite intuitive. Players use the directional pad to move the aiming line and determine the shot angle. The A button is used to execute the shot, with a power meter displayed for players to adjust the shot's strength. The B button allows players to add spin (English) to the cue ball, affecting the trajectory of the object ball after impact or the cue ball's path after the shot. The game's physics are reasonably well-simulated for an NES title, helping players feel the difference when applying various levels of power and spin.
The game also features AI opponents with increasing difficulty, providing a challenge for players. The ultimate goal is to become the best billiard player in Side Pocket.
