Introduce

In Shougi Meikan '92, players will experience the traditional Japanese chess game, Shogi, on the NES console. This is a turn-based strategy game where the primary objective is to checkmate the opponent's King.

The core gameplay of Shougi Meikan '92 revolves around moving pieces on a 9x9 grid board. Each piece has its unique movement pattern and special abilities, including the King, Rook, Bishop, Gold General, Silver General, Knight, Lance, and Pawn. One of Shogi's most distinctive features, compared to Western chess, is the "drop rule." When an opponent's piece is captured, it is not removed from play but becomes a reserve piece for the capturing player. The player can then "drop" this reserve piece back onto any empty square on the board, making it their own piece, provided the move is legal and does not result in an immediate checkmate (e.g., you cannot drop a Pawn to immediately checkmate the opponent's King without an escape).

The game focuses on strategic battles against AI (artificial intelligence) opponents. Players can choose different difficulty levels, ranging from easy to challenging, allowing both beginners to learn Shogi and experienced players to test their skills. The game interface is designed simply, suitable for the NES platform, focusing on displaying the board and movement options. Players will use the NES controller to select pieces, determine moves, and execute actions. Shougi Meikan '92 offers an authentic and challenging Shogi experience right on the classic console.
