In RC Pro-Am, players control a remote-controlled racing car from an isometric perspective, a unique style for its time. The primary objective is to finish each race in first, second, or third place to qualify for the next race. Failing to secure one of these top three positions results in elimination from the tournament.
The tracks are diverse, ranging from straightforward paths to complex terrains with obstacles such as puddles, oil slicks, and ramps that require precise jumps. Controlling the car demands accuracy and quick reflexes to avoid hazards and maintain speed.
One of the exciting elements of RC Pro-Am is its power-up and weapon system. Players can collect the letters N, I, T, R, O scattered across the track. Once all five letters are collected, the car receives a powerful nitro boost. Additionally, players can pick up items like missiles and bombs. Missiles can be fired forward to slow down opponents, while bombs can be dropped behind the car to impede pursuing vehicles. Other power-ups include tires to improve grip, engines to increase top speed, and shields to protect the car from opponent attacks.
Players can also collect money bags strewn throughout the tracks. These money bags not only contribute to the overall score but also help in upgrading the car between races. Car performance is automatically improved based on the money earned, helping players tackle the increasingly difficult challenges. Opponents are AI-controlled cars that can also utilize weapons and power-ups, creating competitive and intense races. RC Pro-Am is highly regarded for its unique blend of racing and combat, along with impressive graphics and sound for the NES system.
