Introduce
Rampart is a unique NES game that blends elements of strategy, action, and puzzle-solving. The game unfolds in rounds, each consisting of several distinct phases, demanding quick thinking and reflexes from the player.
The first phase is the Building Phase. Players are given a limited amount of time to draw walls around their castle or other strategic areas on the map. The objective is to completely enclose one or more castles with walls to enable defense and cannon placement. If a castle is not fully enclosed, it will be inoperable.
Once the walls are built, it's time for the Cannon Placement Phase. Players will place their cannons within the enclosed areas. The larger the enclosed area, the more cannons the player can place, significantly increasing their offensive power.
Next comes the Artillery Phase. This is the main action segment, where players control their cannons to aim and fire at enemy castles or other targets on the map, such as ships. The goal is to destroy enemy castles or weaken their forces.
Finally, there's the Repair/Rebuild Phase. After the artillery exchange concludes, players must quickly repair any damaged walls or rebuild destroyed sections before the next round begins. Resource and time management in this phase are crucial.
Rampart can be played in single-player or two-player modes. The primary objective is usually to eliminate all opponent castles or defend your own for a set number of rounds. The combination of strategic building, action-packed cannon firing, and time pressure makes Rampart a challenging and addictive gaming experience.
