Introduce

Qi Wang - Chinese Chess is a classic Chinese Chess game for the NES system. In this game, players engage in thrilling Chinese chess matches, facing off against the computer or another player. The primary objective is to checkmate the opponent's General.

The board in Qi Wang - Chinese Chess is divided into two halves by a central "river," and each side has a "palace" where the General and Advisors move. The pieces include:

  • General: Moves one square at a time within the palace, cannot leave, and cannot directly face the opposing General.
  • Advisor: Moves one square diagonally within the palace, protecting the General.
  • Elephant: Moves two squares diagonally (in a field shape), cannot cross the river, and is blocked if a piece stands in its path.
  • Horse: Moves in an L-shape (two squares straight and one square perpendicular), can be blocked if a piece is immediately adjacent to its starting square in the straight direction.
  • Chariot: Moves horizontally or vertically any number of squares, unobstructed by other pieces in its path.
  • Cannon: Moves horizontally or vertically any number of squares. To capture, the Cannon must jump over exactly one other piece (called a "screen") located between the Cannon and the target piece.
  • Soldier: Moves one square forward. After crossing the river, the Soldier can also move one square sideways. Soldiers cannot move backward.

The gameplay of Qi Wang - Chinese Chess focuses on strategy and long-term thinking. Players must carefully calculate each move, anticipate their opponent's actions, and build effective offensive and defensive strategies. The game faithfully replicates traditional Chinese chess rules, offering a challenging chess experience on the 8-bit platform.
