Introduce
Puyo Puyo (NES) is a classic falling-block puzzle game where players must arrange cute creatures called "Puyo" to create impressive chain reactions. The core gameplay revolves around two Puyo, which can be of different or the same colors, falling from the top of the screen. Players can rotate this pair of Puyo and move them left or right before they hit the bottom or land on other already placed Puyo.
The main objective is to connect four or more Puyo of the same color for them to disappear. Connections can be made horizontally, vertically, or even diagonally. The most unique and engaging aspect of Puyo Puyo is its "chain reaction" mechanic. When a group of Puyo disappears, the Puyo above them fall down. If this downward shift accidentally creates another group of same-colored Puyo, a chain reaction is triggered. Each consecutive chain reaction yields higher scores and, more importantly, sends "Garbage Puyo" (Ojama Puyo) to the opponent's screen.
Garbage Puyo are grey, uncolored Puyo that cannot disappear on their own by matching. They can only be cleared when other colored Puyo disappear adjacent to them. Sending Garbage Puyo is the primary strategy to put pressure on your opponent, filling their screen and making it difficult for them to arrange their Puyo. The game ends when one player's Puyo stack up to the top of their screen. Puyo Puyo on the NES offers a single-player mode against the computer, a highly competitive two-player mode, and an endless mode for practicing skills.
