Introduce
In Pro Wrestling, players begin by selecting one of six unique wrestlers, each possessing their own distinct special moves. The roster includes Star Man, Kin Corn Karn, King Slender, The Amazon, Giant Baba, and Fighter Hayabusa. The diverse fighting styles of each wrestler encourage players to experiment and find the character that best suits their playstyle.
The gameplay of Pro Wrestling is relatively simple yet requires skill. Players use the directional pad and buttons to move, punch, kick, grapple, and execute holds. Each wrestler has a unique finishing move that can be performed when the opponent is weakened. For example, Star Man has the Star Drop, The Amazon with the Amazon Special, or King Slender with the Back Brain Kick. Mastering the timing and execution of these moves is key to victory.
Matches take place in a traditional wrestling ring. The primary objective is to weaken the opponent enough to perform a three-count pinfall or make them submit. Wrestlers' health bars deplete as they take damage. When the health bar is low, the opponent will be downed, providing an opportunity for a pin. Players can also throw opponents out of the ring, but this only causes damage and does not end the match. The referee will count to 20 if a wrestler stays outside the ring for too long, resulting in a loss if they don't return in time.
The main game mode is the PWF Championship. Players must defeat a series of opponents to advance to the final championship match. After winning the belt, players must defend it in subsequent matches. Consecutive victories will help players maintain their champion status. The game is famous for its 'A Winner Is You' message after winning, a phrase that has become iconic for the game.
Despite its simple 8-bit graphics, Pro Wrestling made an impression with its recognizable character designs and distinctive sound effects for attacks. While the background music is limited, it contributes to the exciting atmosphere of the matches.
