In Parasol Stars - Rainbow Islands II, players control one of the adorable creatures like Puddy or Cubby, who wield a magical umbrella as their primary weapon and movement tool. The game is a single-screen platformer, with each level typically being a static screen or slowly scrolling vertically as you progress. The main objective on each screen is to defeat all the enemies that appear to unlock the exit door and proceed to the next stage.

The umbrella is central to all actions. You can use it to block enemy projectiles, or more importantly, to catch drops of water, fire, or lightning falling from above. Once a drop is caught, you can throw it back at enemies in the form of a damaging bubble. Bubbles can be thrown in various directions, and if you catch multiple drops of the same type, you can form a larger bubble with greater destructive power. For example, three water drops create a large water bubble that can drown enemies. Three fire drops create a fire bubble that burns. Three lightning drops create a shocking lightning bubble.

Beyond offense, the umbrella is also used for movement. You can bounce on the bubbles you create to reach higher positions or collect hard-to-reach items. The umbrella can also be used as a parachute to slow your descent, helping you control jumps and avoid falling into pits. Throughout the levels, you'll collect power-ups such as increased movement speed, larger umbrella size, or temporary invincibility. Collecting enough special items will grant large bonus points or unlock secret levels. The vibrant graphics and cheerful music are highlights of the game, creating a challenging and engaging platforming experience.
