Navy Blue is a deep naval strategy game for the NES system, where players assume the role of an admiral commanding a powerful fleet. The primary objective is to capture enemy bases and destroy enemy fleets through intense tactical battles.

The gameplay of Navy Blue is divided into two main parts: strategic management on the world map and naval battles. On the world map, players move their fleets between ports and sea zones. Each turn, you must make crucial decisions regarding ship deployment, managing resources like money and fuel, and building or repairing ships at the ports you control.

The game features various ship types, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, including battleships, cruisers, destroyers, submarines, and aircraft carriers with their planes. Combining and deploying these ship types effectively is key to victory.

When two fleets engage, the game transitions to a combat screen. Battles are typically turn-based and tactical, where players need to issue attack, defend, or movement commands for each ship. While not a direct action game, the strategic element of choosing targets, utilizing weaponry, and leveraging terrain advantages (if any) is crucial. Players must also monitor the status of their ships, including damage and fuel levels, to ensure the fleet is always ready for subsequent encounters.

The economic system in Navy Blue also plays a vital role. Money is earned by capturing ports or completing missions and is used to purchase new ships, upgrade, repair, and refuel. Wise financial management is essential to maintaining a strong and sustainable fleet throughout the campaign.
