Nangoku Shirei!! - Spy vs Spy is a unique and intense action-puzzle game based on the popular comic strip from Mad Magazine. In the game, players control one of two spies – the Black Spy or the White Spy – with the objective of finding four secret items (a passport, key, money, and secret documents) and escaping the embassy before their opponent does.

Each round takes place within an embassy building divided into multiple rooms. Players must navigate through these rooms, searching for items while simultaneously setting traps to hinder their opponent. Trap types include: bombs, springs, buckets, and bird traps. To set a trap, players need to pick up the corresponding items found in various rooms. When a spy steps into a room with a trap, they are temporarily incapacitated, giving the other spy an advantage.

An interesting mechanic is the ability to combine traps. For instance, placing a bomb under a bucket creates a more potent trap. However, opponents can also disarm traps by using counter-items such as pliers for bombs, an umbrella for buckets, etc. The screen is split vertically, allowing both players to monitor their own actions and their opponent's simultaneously, creating a tactical and suspenseful element. The ultimate goal is to collect all necessary items and reach the airplane to escape. The game demands quick reflexes, strategic thinking, and good judgment to outsmart the cunning opponent.
