Introduce

In Mario Bros., players control Mario (or Luigi in 2-player mode) with the objective of eliminating all the strange creatures emerging from pipes on the screen. Each stage consists of a series of platforms, with pipes at the top and a trap at the bottom.

To defeat enemies, players must jump from below and hit the platform the enemy is walking on. This will cause the enemy to flip onto its back and temporarily become immobile. Once an enemy is flipped, the player must run up to it and kick it off the screen to score points. If not kicked in time, the enemy will flip back over and continue moving, often faster and harder to defeat.

Enemy types include: Shellcreepers (turtles), Sidesteppers (crabs requiring two hits to flip), and Fighter Flies (flying enemies that jump up and down). Later stages introduce Slipice, creatures that turn the floor into slippery ice. Each enemy type has different behaviors and requires specific approaches to defeat.

A crucial element is the POW block located at the bottom of the screen. When a player hits the POW block, all enemies on the screen are immediately flipped onto their backs, making it a useful tool when overwhelmed. The POW block can only be used a few times before disappearing.

The game features a 2-player mode where Mario and Luigi can cooperate or compete for higher scores. Interaction between the two players can lead to effective teamwork or humorous situations where they accidentally hinder each other. Additionally, after every few stages, there's a bonus stage where players must collect coins within a time limit to earn extra points without any enemies.

Mario Bros. is a classic arcade game with simple yet addictive gameplay, demanding quick reflexes and precise timing.
