Kyouryuu Sentai Zyuranger on NES is a typical side-scrolling action game that puts players in the shoes of the familiar Zyuranger warriors. The game usually begins with the player choosing one of the five Zyurangers – Tyranno Ranger (Red), Mammoth Ranger (Black), Tricera Ranger (Blue), Tiger Ranger (Yellow), and Ptera Ranger (Pink). Each Zyuranger has basic attacks and sometimes unique special abilities.

The core gameplay revolves around moving through linear stages, defeating minor enemies, and confronting a boss at the end of each level.
