Introduce

Kid Dracula (also known as Akumajō Special: Boku Dracula-kun in Japan) is a unique and humorous platformer that offers a different take on the Castlevania universe. In the game, players control Kid Dracula, the young but spirited son of Count Dracula, a pint-sized vampire with big ambitions.

The primary goal of the game is to navigate through various diverse stages, ranging from spooky castles to modern cities and even outer space. Each stage is designed with numerous obstacles, enemies, and small puzzles. Kid Dracula possesses basic movement abilities like walking and jumping. A distinctive feature is the ability to transform into a bat for a limited time to fly, helping to cross large gaps or reach difficult areas.

Kid Dracula's main weapon is fireballs that can be shot from his hands. As the game progresses, players will acquire new "abilities" after defeating the boss at the end of each stage. These abilities are diverse and highly useful, including:

  • Magic Missile: Shoots multiple fireballs simultaneously.
  • Bat Transformation: Transforms into a bat for free flight (consumes energy).
  • Umbrella Shield: Creates an umbrella to protect against enemy projectiles.
  • Giant Transformation: Transforms into a giant version of himself, capable of stomping enemies.
  • Reverse Gravity: Reverses gravity, allowing movement on the ceiling.
  • Block Creation: Creates a square block to stand on or block projectiles.

Each of these special abilities consumes a certain amount of "magic points," displayed at the top of the screen. Players need to manage this resource carefully. The game also features light puzzle elements, requiring players to use the correct ability in specific situations to progress.

Kid Dracula's graphics are cartoonish, bright, and humorous, a stark contrast to the dark tone of the main Castlevania series. The music is also catchy and cheerful, contributing to the game's lighthearted atmosphere. Despite its cute appearance, the game still offers a decent level of challenge, especially in later stages and boss battles. The version included in the Castlevania Anniversary Collection is the English version, making it more accessible to players.
