Jeopardy! Junior Edition on NES faithfully recreates the familiar format of the popular TV quiz show, but it's adapted to be suitable for younger players. The main objective is to accumulate as much money as possible by correctly answering clues presented in the form of answers.
The game unfolds over three rounds: Jeopardy!, Double Jeopardy!, and Final Jeopardy!. Each round features a board with various categories, and each category contains clues with increasing dollar values. Players choose a category and a dollar value. Once the clue appears, you must provide the corresponding question. For example, if the clue is "This city is the capital of France," you must respond "What is Paris?".
Within the Jeopardy! and Double Jeopardy! rounds, there are hidden Daily Double squares. When a player selects one of these, they can wager any amount of money they currently have (or up to the maximum value of that square if their money is less). If they answer correctly, the wagered amount is added; if incorrect, it's subtracted. This introduces elements of strategy and risk.
After the first two rounds are complete, the three players with the highest money totals advance to the Final Jeopardy! round. Here, a single category is revealed, and players secretly wager a portion or all of their earnings before the final clue is shown. Once the clue appears, players have a limited time to type their question. The player with the highest money total after the Final Jeopardy! round is declared the winner.
The questions in Jeopardy! Junior Edition are designed to align with children's general knowledge, covering a wide range of topics such as history, geography, science, sports, literature, and popular culture.
