Jeopardy! 25th Anniversary Edition is a trivia game based on the popular television show of the same name. The main objective for players is to accumulate as much money as possible by correctly answering the presented clues.

The game progresses through several rounds, starting with the Jeopardy! round. A game board is displayed, featuring six different categories, each containing five clues with increasing dollar values (e.g., $100, $200, $300, $400, $500). Players take turns selecting a category and a dollar value. Once the clue is revealed, players must "buzz in" to earn the right to respond. If answered correctly, the corresponding dollar amount is added to the player's score. If answered incorrectly or not answered in time, that amount is deducted.

A unique aspect of Jeopardy! is that the clues are presented as answers, and players must phrase their response in the form of a question. For example, if the clue is "The capital of France," the player must respond with "What is Paris?" or "What city is the capital of France?". The NES version typically requires players to select letters to form their correct response.

Within the Jeopardy! round, there is one hidden "Daily Double" square. When a player selects this square, they have the opportunity to wager any amount of money they currently possess before the clue is revealed. Answering correctly doubles their wager, while an incorrect answer results in losing that amount.

After the Jeopardy! round, the game moves into the Double Jeopardy! round, featuring higher dollar values and new categories. This round also contains two hidden "Daily Double" squares.

Finally, the game concludes with the Final Jeopardy! round. A single category is revealed. Players then have the opportunity to wager any portion of their current winnings. After placing their wager, the clue is presented, and players must provide their final response. This is a critical moment where players can significantly alter their score, potentially surging ahead or losing everything.

The game supports 1 to 3 players, with computer opponents filling in if there aren't enough human participants. The player with the highest money total at the conclusion of the Final Jeopardy! round is declared the winner.
