Introduce

Jajamaru Gekimaden - Maboroshi no Kinmajou is a unique action-adventure RPG for the NES, distinguishing itself from earlier Ninja Jajamaru-kun titles which were primarily platformers. The game casts players as Ninja Jajamaru, tasked with rescuing Princess Sakura from a formidable demon lord.

Gameplay in Jajamaru Gekimaden unfolds from a top-down perspective, reminiscent of classic adventure games. Players guide Jajamaru through a vast world encompassing villages, fields, caves, and most notably, perilous castles and dungeons. Each area is designed with numerous secrets, hidden paths, and diverse enemies.

The combat system is straightforward yet effective. Jajamaru can attack with his katana or utilize special ninja magic (Ninjutsu). These Ninjutsu spells can be collected throughout the game or purchased from shops, offering various effects such as long-range attacks, defense, or even transformations. Players must carefully manage Jajamaru's HP and SP (Spirit Points for Ninjutsu).

A key aspect of Jajamaru Gekimaden is its light RPG elements. Jajamaru can collect money from defeated enemies to purchase new items and equipment like stronger armor, weapons, or healing potions from shops. Additionally, the game features a "leveling" or "upgrade" system, often through collecting mysterious scrolls, which makes Jajamaru stronger, unlocks new abilities, or boosts his stats.

Throughout his journey, Jajamaru will confront various enemy types, from small monsters to powerful bosses that require strategy and skill to defeat. The ultimate goal is to reach the Golden Castle (Kinmajou) of the demon lord and rescue Princess Sakura.
