Introduce
In Gun Smoke NES, players assume the role of a skilled cowboy named Billy the Kid, embarking on a journey through the untamed Wild West to quell criminal gangs. This is a top-down shooter where the screen automatically scrolls upwards, creating a continuous sense of movement and confrontation with enemies.
A unique aspect of Gun Smoke's gameplay is its distinctive shooting control system. Players can fire in three distinct directions: the A button shoots to the left or right (depending on Billy's movement direction), and the B button fires straight upwards. When both buttons are pressed simultaneously, Billy will shoot diagonally upwards, enabling flexible offensive strategies. This requires players to master combining buttons to deal with enemies appearing from all sides.
Each stage in Gun Smoke is filled with various types of enemies, ranging from on-foot bandits and gunmen hiding behind obstacles to aggressive horse-mounted outlaws. The primary objective in each stage is to survive waves of attacks and ultimately confront a dangerous boss. To aid Billy, players can collect various power-up items dropped by defeated enemies or hidden within barrels:
- Boots: Increase Billy's movement speed.
- Rifle: Extends the range of bullets.
- Bullets: Increases the power of each shot, helping to defeat enemies faster.
- Money Bags: Award score points.
- Horse: Provides an extra hit point, helping the player survive longer.
- Armor: Reduces incoming damage.
Another crucial element involves the "Wanted Posters" that appear at the beginning of each stage. Players need to collect a sufficient number of these posters (typically 10, purchased from NPCs) to be able to face the stage's final boss. If not enough are collected, the stage will repeat until the player acquires the required amount. Gun Smoke is a challenging title that demands quick reflexes, skillful movement, and effective shooting tactics to overcome increasingly difficult levels.
