Godzilla - Monster of Monsters! (USA)

Godzilla - Monster of Monsters! is a unique NES game that cleverly blends strategic board game elements with side-scrolling action. Players take control of one of two iconic kaiju: Godzilla or Mothra (or switch between them if both are alive). The primary objective of the game is to navigate through various planets, destroy all enemy monster bases, and defeat powerful boss monsters.

The strategic portion of the game takes place on a grid-based map, resembling a chessboard. Each square on the map represents a different area on the planet. Players move either Godzilla or Mothra one step at a time. When moving onto a square, several scenarios can unfold:

• Empty Square: May trigger a random battle with a minor monster or reveal a power-up item.
• Enemy Monster Square: Initiates a direct battle with that specific monster.
• Enemy Base Square: Requires the player to fight through enemies to destroy the base.

Once a battle is triggered, the game transitions into a 2D side-scrolling action sequence. Players control their chosen monster to fight. Godzilla employs physical attacks such as punches, kicks, tail whips, and his signature Atomic Breath. Mothra, being airborne, attacks with eye beams and can deploy Poison Powder. Players must dodge enemy attacks and unleash their own to deplete the opponent's health bar.

Each planet features multiple enemy bases that need to be destroyed. After successfully clearing all bases on a planet, the player must face a formidable major boss battle to advance to the next planet. The game features a total of 13 planets, each presenting its own set of monsters and challenges. Famous kaiju from the Godzilla universe like King Ghidorah, Hedorah, Gigan, Baragon, Varan, Rodan, Moguera, Anguirus, and Biollante make appearances throughout the game.

Players can collect various power-up items to enhance their attack power, defense, or restore health. The ability to switch between Godzilla and Mothra (if both are available) adds a layer of strategic flexibility.
