Introduce

Ganbare Goemon! - Karakuri Douchuu is the inaugural title in the Goemon series for the NES, establishing the foundational gameplay style that would define the franchise. Players control Goemon, a righteous thief in ancient Japan, tasked with rescuing a kidnapped princess.

The core gameplay blends two distinct perspectives: a sprawling overhead world map and side-scrolling action stages. On the world map, Goemon can move freely, exploring villages, towns, and entrances to various levels. Villages typically feature shops where players can purchase items, inns to restore health, and NPCs offering valuable information or quests.

Upon entering a stage, the perspective shifts to a side-scrolling view, where the primary action takes place. Goemon primarily uses his kiseru (smoking pipe) as a melee weapon to attack enemies. He can also throw kobans (coins) as a long-range projectile, which consumes money but is effective. Enemies vary from ninjas and samurai to mythical creatures. Stages are designed with numerous obstacles and secrets, encouraging exploration.

The in-game currency is Koban, collected from defeated enemies or found within stages. Money can be used to acquire useful items such as protective armor, stronger weapons, or special items that help Goemon overcome challenges. A notable feature is the ability to discover secret passages or hidden rooms containing valuable currency and items.

The ultimate objective is to progress through a series of stages, defeat bosses at the end of each major area, and eventually reach the antagonist's castle to rescue the princess. The game offers a moderate difficulty, requiring players to skillfully combine combat, exploration, and resource management.
