Faxanadu (USA) (Rev 1)

In Faxanadu, players assume the role of an unnamed Elf returning to his hometown of Eolis, only to discover the World Tree is dying under the assault of various monsters. Your main quest is to venture deep into the World Tree, exploring towns and dungeons, and fighting to uncover the cause and save the kingdom.

Faxanadu's gameplay combines side-scrolling action with RPG elements. Players navigate through screens, jump over obstacles, and engage in combat with numerous enemies using various weapons. Initially, you start with a simple dagger, but can later purchase or find more powerful swords, shields, and even magic spells.

Towns serve as crucial hubs. Here, you can converse with NPCs to gather information, and purchase items from shops such as healing potions, keys, rings that enhance abilities, and magic spells. The currency used for purchases is gold, earned by defeating enemies.

A unique aspect of Faxanadu is its save system, handled by 'Gurus'. Upon encountering a Guru, they provide you with a 'Mantra' (essentially a long password). You must remember or write down this Mantra to resume your game from that point if you are defeated. This requires careful attention from the player.

The game features a diverse range of enemies, from small creatures to formidable bosses that require strategic approaches. Upgrading equipment and wisely using magic are key to overcoming the challenging obstacles. Faxanadu offers a challenging and captivating adventure experience, characterized by its dark and mysterious atmosphere.
