Introduce

In Fantasy Zone, players control Opa-Opa, a sentient spaceship/creature, as it navigates through colorful, side-scrolling levels. The primary objective in each stage is to destroy all enemy bases. These bases are clearly marked and typically appear in waves.

Upon destroying enemies or bases, Opa-Opa will drop coins. Players must collect these coins to purchase upgrades at shops that periodically appear on screen. Upgrades include various types of engines (to increase movement speed), main weapons (like rapid-fire guns, wide shots), and bombs. Choosing the right upgrades for each situation is key to overcoming challenges.

Once all bases are destroyed, a large boss will appear. Players must defeat this boss to advance to the next stage. Fantasy Zone stands out with its bright graphics, unique "cute 'em up" style, and the economic element (coin collection, shopping) which was rare in the shooter genre at the time.
