Dokuganryuu Masamune is a strategy and role-playing game (RPG) on the NES system, putting players in the shoes of Date Masamune, a famous daimyo during Japan's tumultuous Sengoku period. The main objective of the game is to unify Japan under Date Masamune's rule.

The gameplay of Dokuganryuu Masamune focuses on territorial management, military development, and diplomacy. Players will move across a map of Japan, capturing and managing various provinces. Each province has its own statistics regarding economy, population, and military. You need to invest in agriculture to produce food, develop commerce to increase income, and build military facilities to recruit and train soldiers.

Combat is turn-based. When two armies clash, the game transitions to a battlefield screen where you control your military units. Units come in different types such as infantry, archers, and cavalry, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Proper formation and command execution are key to achieving victory. Factors like terrain and troop morale also significantly impact battle outcomes.

Furthermore, Dokuganryuu Masamune also incorporates RPG elements. Date Masamune and his generals have stats such as leadership, intelligence, and strength. These stats affect management efficiency and combat performance. Players can enhance the power of their generals through experience gained from battles or through special events. Diplomacy also plays a crucial role; you can form alliances, send gifts, or declare war on other daimyo to expand your influence.

The game recreates a part of Japanese history, featuring characters and events based on reality, offering a deep strategic experience combined with engaging RPG elements.
