Introduce
In Deadly Towers, players assume the role of Prince Myer, tasked with the noble mission of defeating the evil wizard Rubas and sealing the eight parallel towers to prevent the Bell of Doom from ringing. The game blends action-adventure elements with light RPG mechanics.
The game features a top-down perspective, similar to classic adventure titles, but with a unique emphasis on vertical scrolling as players explore the towers. The game world comprises a vast overworld map, eight distinct towers, and Rubas's final palace. Each tower is a complex labyrinth, teeming with enemies and hidden rooms. Myer must navigate his way to the top of each tower to confront its boss and seal its respective bell.
Myer's combat system primarily relies on projecting his sword as a projectile, rather than traditional melee combat. He can also utilize spells like Fire or Cure, along with various support items such as shields, rings, and potions. These items are purchased from hidden shops scattered across the map, using Pels – the currency collected from defeated enemies.
One of Deadly Towers' most defining characteristics is its notoriously high difficulty and often confusing level design. Many areas look similar, making navigation challenging. The game provides little guidance, forcing players to explore and memorize on their own. Death in the game is severely punishing, as players lose all collected items unless they find the special Cross item, which prevents item loss. This significantly increases the challenge and requires players to strategize carefully.
The "parallel tower" mechanic is unique, as Myer must find his way into each separate tower and conquer them. Each tower presents its own environment and set of enemies. Only after sealing all eight bells can Myer proceed to Rubas's palace to face the final confrontation.
